What to expect
Initial consultation
In your first appointment we will take a few minutes to discuss the health questionnaire, which will ask about your lifestyle, any medical conditions or injuries, and what you are looking to gain from massage. You will also be able to ask any questions you have for me and we can plan your massage together. By developing an understanding of your body use and experience, I will be equipped to give you the best massage possible.
In subsequent appointments, I will always begin by checking in with you to ensure that your massages are always responding to your needs and preferences on that day.
The massage
With couch-based massages you will be covered with a soft sheet, which will only be moved to uncover the areas we are specifically focussing on; Thai massages take place on a futon; Indian head massages, seated in a chair
For some people, chair rather than couch massage is more comfortable and I am fully equipped with a professional massage chair.
In the cooler months, I use a heated blanket to aid your relaxation throughout. Soft bolsters may be used to support and add comfort as needed.
I use almond oil or hypoallergenic gel as appropriate. I also offer optional aromatherapy blends.
Health and Safety
In addition to my extensive training in anatomy, I am fully qualified in first aid as required by my professional organisation and insurance. In addition, I offer hand sanitiser, optional mask wearing (clients and myself) and keep my studio well sanitised and ventilated.
Clothing
For couch based massage, I leave the room for your privacy as you undress and get comfortable under the sheet. It is common for people to undress to their underwear for this type of massage. However it is perfectly possible to massage fully over clothing should you find this more comfortable. Light and loose garments will facilitate this more easily.
For Indian head and Thai massage, loose, thin clothing is worn.
Aftercare
After your treatment I may suggest some aftercare, for example, specific stretches that can extend the benefits of your treatment.
